Experience the Speed and Power of a DSL Connection
Mike Freemen, August 17, 2007
Not Rated
When the first Internet services came out, getting connected meant hooking up the phone line to a slow modem and dialing up to the Internet service provider. While this dial up connection certainly provided the Internet, the connection was slow, and the user was at the mercy of the quality of the phone company.
In addition, perhaps the biggest downside to the dial up approach was the fact that the phone would be tied up for hours, meaning that no other calls could get through. Internet users were forced to endure these busy signals or to take the expensive step of buying a second telephone line.

Alan Nguyen, August 13, 2007
Not Rated
T3 Internet connection or ‘Trunk Level 3’ is capable of transmitting data up to 44.7 million bits per second (mbps) through an extremely high bandwidth equivalent to about 672 regular voice-grade phone lines. T3 connection, by copper, is similar in technology to a T1, but it has greater bandwidth through which it can transfer data to and from Internet at a higher speed. A full T3 or DS3 line is equivalent to 28 T1 lines in terms of data transfer per unit time but it has to be customized accordingly to gain optimal benefit. A T3 circuit can also be by fiber and that is how most DS3 circuits are these days.

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a new telecommunication/broadband technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access. WiMAX allows a user, for example, to browse the Internet on a laptop computer without physically connecting the laptop to a wall jack in the same way as Wi-Fi.
• WiMAX & Wi-Fi may seem similar (as well as sound similar), they are actually aimed at different applications.
